This post is dedicated to my friend Kelsey, whose fantastic pictures and praise of this german chocolate cake on her own blog tempted me to try it for myself. She said it was wonderful but labor intensive, which it definitely was. I don’t think I’ve ever used so many bowls/pans for one thing before (my favorite belgian waffle recipe uses a lot, but it has nothing on this). That said, it was also completely worth it.
We did make a few variations to the recipe – skipped the unsweetened chocolate and used all bittersweet, also realized we had no pecans so just left those out entirely – but it worked out fine. The cake was absolutely amazing.
